General Practitioner
Earwax removal by irrigation or syringing is the old-fashioned method of cleaning ears and removing earwax.
Spraying out ears has several disadvantages over dry ear canal cleaning with microsuction and curettage. At the core, you don’t want to introduce unnecessary water into the ear and certainly don’t want to inject pressure into the narrow ear canal.
Spraying is riskier, applicable in fewer ear canal types, less effective (especially with hard earwax and earwax that blocks the entire ear canal), can lead to subsequent complications (especially infections) and is often perceived as unpleasant.
Spraying out is a method that has long been replaced by microsuction or suctioning out by the ENT doctor in the hospital. This is less risky, widely applicable, less hassle, faster and more pleasant for the patient.
Recent innovation puts safe extraction of ears at GP's fingertips
To enable suctioning, the ENT doctor has at his disposal the large fixed surgical microscope and a microsuction pump integrated into a special unit.
This large investment is obviously not feasible for you as a general practitioner and has kept you from making the move to dry cleaning ears until now.
Moreover, working with the microscope used by the ENT doctor requires a lot of practice and experience. This is because it has a small focal point and therefore keeping the image sharp and in focus is very difficult, especially with movements of patient or practitioner.
In practice, this raises a high barrier both financially and practically to embark on extraction.
Fortunately, there is now a solution.
The head-borne microscope lets you get started right away at a small investment
Recently, however, a technological innovation has made it possible to switch to ear suctioning for a small investment anyway.
The key is the Vorotek O Scope recently introduced in Europe. This head-borne microscope allows both eyes to view the entire ear canal in 3D with slight magnification.
Working with the Vorotek O Scope is very intuitive and simple and therefore low-threshold. It requires virtually no experience or practice. You set it up and you’re good to go. That’s because the O Scope has a large focus/depth area so you can still stay in focus during small patient movements.
Combine the Vorotek O Scope with our specially tailored microsuction pump and you can get started right after our training.
Thus, earwax and ear plug removal the dry way is now within reach for your general practice as well.
Our accredited training is taught by ENT doctors and has been further refined in recent years
We offer the employees who will be doing it the Dry Ear Cleaning Course for Audiologists and Physician Assistants. During this course, they learn how to work safely so they can then go into practice with confidence.
These trainings are conducted by our affiliated ENT doctors. Each participant is given access to a our e-learning environment 2 weeks in advance to thoroughly familiarize themselves with the anatomy and pathology of the ear in preparation.
Afterwards, there is the opportunity to stay in touch with our ENT doctors through our EarcareDossier, an electronic patient record with chat function.
And each participant can join the Whatasapp Intervision Group Dry Ear Canal Cleaning afterward. The purpose of this is to share knowledge and learn from each other. Our ENT doctors themselves also participate in this group.
In the Netherlands, our training course “Dry Ear Cleaning for the Doctor’s Assistant” is accredited by KABIZ-DA and the NVDA with 41.5 points.
Getting started safely with our proven approach
Our approach has come over from Australia where suctioning with the Vorotek O Scope is now used by most general practitioners.
For the past two years, we have been testing and refining this method in the Netherlands with ENT doctors’ assistants and Triage Audiologists.
With us, you’ll find everything under one roof to get started with extraction safely and with confidence.
