The benefits of the Vorotek O Scope through the eyes of ENT physician Dr. Jan Rombout
The Vorotek O Scope forehead-worn microscope is perfect for looking into deep, narrow cavities. The Vorotek O Scope is designed to look into ear canals with, leaving you two hands free to work. Did you know that you can also look well into noses and throats and that there is more possible with the Vorotek O Scope than meets the eye?
The Vorotek O Scope is also great for nosebleeds.
Assistants can very easily insert anesthesia deep into the nose with the O Scope because they have good light and visibility in depth. This saves the ENT doctor preparation time and reduces the treatment time required by the ENT doctor by half. Performing a treatment in the nose under the O Scope (e.g., cauterization, nasal shell reduction or septum correction) increases precision, which positively affects the outcome.
Ear canal plasty or meatoplasty is much easier under the Vorotek O Scope than with the fixed surgical microscope: with the three diopter magnification, you keep an overview of the surgical area.
The LED light nicely shows the contrast of the vessels with the rest of the tissues. Because of the 10cm depth of field area, it does not matter if the patient occasionally moves: the image always remains in focus.
The Vorotek O Scope can also be used, for example, for consultations in the Intensive Care Unit. An experienced ENT specialist can then insert a tube into an eardrum using the O Scope.
Objects lodged in the ear canal (e.g., plugs) can be removed easily, anywhere you want as long as you have an O Scope and the right tweezers handy.
The Vorotek O Scope is very good to use as a standard forehead lamp for an ENT doctor, if you fold the microscope part upward. This allows you to do the standard nasal examination. If you need more magnification to study e.g. suspicious spots in the mouth/throat you fold the microscope part down.
You can also survey the middle nasal passage and ethmoid better than with a regular forehead lamp. This reduces the number of times than you have to do nasendoscopy with a rigid or flexible scope.
In short the O Scope can be used by an ENT doctor or assistant almost every day, can replace the current forehead lamp with many additional features.
